The Prologue
Style and fashion are universal. They cross any cultural boundary you could possibly imagine. For as long as I can remember I've been into dressing, especially when it came to footwear. I always thought people's fashion cues, their personal reference points, were absolutely fascinating. I used to go through my father's old pictures to capture hints of the culture during his day, to get a glimpse of what their interpretation of fashion and style was. These days, blogs and fashion magazines have become the go-to sources for cues of that nature. A few months ago, I sat down with Puma and we discussed fashion, reference points and, obviously, sneakers. My first memories of Puma were photos from the '80s and the guys rocking Puma Suedes on the NYC subway. They had so much attitude. The Suedes were crisp and their outfits even more so. As a youngster, my dad’s friend Tony and my friend Andy, although generations apart, were both equally committed to exclusively rocking Pumas. They had them in every colour and wore a matching outfit with each pair. Growing up, it was a sight to behold. I’ve always felt that Puma Suedes made you era-authentic, especially if you were wearing them right! The photos I saw from the '70s and '80s in New York City inspired me to create a style sheet of my peers, readers and people the world over rocking their Suedes. I wanted to see what these Subway Series of photos would look like today if everyone was rocking Suedes. Puma has since re-issued the Suedes in their classic colorways and I wanted to give you all the opportunity to show me how you rock your Puma Suedes. Over the course of the next few weeks, this new digital experience will be populated with pictures from around the globe styling in their Suedes. You will also get the opportunity to get to know some of these people through their social links. Thank you for checking in and staying fresh!
